Didim The City Behind the Ancient Ruins

Didim, located in the province of Aydın, is one of Turkey's important tourism destinations. It is situated 123 km away from the center of Aydın and became a district in 1991. Didim is located on a peninsula bordered by the Mugla province border and the Akbük Gulf to the east, the Aegean Sea to the west and south, and the Bafa Lake and the Menderes River to the north.

The presence of many significant ancient cities around Didim raises the question of "Where is Didim?" Because historically, this region has provided significant advantages due to its location. For instance, when the ancient city of Miletus was first established, it was located along the coastline. Similarly, during the founding of the Heraclea ancient city, the Bafa Lake and its surroundings were a deep and important harbor city on the Aegean. However, as the alluvium carried by the Menderes River closed off the sea, these ancient settlements began to be abandoned. Nevertheless, remnants from the ancient world continue to be unearthed in the Didim region. It is also included on the Muğla page due to its proximity to the Bodrum-Milas airport.

Dubbed the "Pearl of the Aegean," Didim stands out as a district with historical riches, beautiful beaches, and a warm climate. Being part of the Aydın province, Didim offers an unforgettable experience to visitors with its ancient ruins, stunning beaches, and traditional atmosphere.

Didim Castle:
Didim Castle is a historical structure that spans from ancient times to the present. Built to protect Didim Bay, the remnants of the castle still standing today provide visitors with a historical atmosphere. From the vantage points within the castle, you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Didim's unique coasts and the Aegean Sea.
